As part of a Triangle Arts Trust Gasworks residency at Khoj International Artists Association, Delhi, Ashery went to Dili Haat food and craft market dressed as a Jewish man and asked a street-portrait artist to draw her/him. Soon afterwards, Ashery returned, this time dressed as an Arab man, and asked the same artist to draw her/him. On both occasions the street-artist simply drew what he saw. This interaction explores the relationships between the two artists and their two practices. This is part of Ashery’s queer exploration of her Jewish heritage as a 7th generation Jew born in Jerusalem, or what she terms a Palestinian Jew.
