Lilith Performance Studio is delighted to present Passing through Metal, a major collaboration with London-based artist Oreet Ashery. In Passing through Metal forty local knitters and the Doom / Sludge Metal band Pyramido unite in an apocalyptic metal poetry performance.
Ashery has worked with the subject of death and digital afterlife in her recent comprehensive web series entitled Revisiting Genesis (2016). In the current work Passing through Metal, in cooperation with Lilith Performance Studio, Ashery examines, in a playful, poetic and physical ways, collective insecurity and foreboding sense of the ephemeral.
For the duration of two hours audiences will be invited to pass through the sound of metallic rain produced by eighty metal knitting needles, each attached to a pick-up microphone, and occasionally interrupted by Pyramido’s heavy sonic wall of growling doom. Moving continuously through the architecture of the space, the public becomes part of the rhythm, as there is no safe spot to be found.
