As part of a Triangle Arts Trust Gasworks residency at Khoj International Artists Association, Delhi, Ashery went to Dili Haat food and craft market with a stuck on moustache and a Jewish kippah and asked a street-portrait artist to draw her/him. Soon afterwards, Ashery returned with the same moustache attached, this time she wore a keffiyeh, and asked the same artist to draw her/him. On both occasions the street-artist simply drew what he saw. This interaction explores the relationships between the two artists and their two practices.

Ashery is interested in lived intersectional experiences of gender materiality and religious, ethnic and racial identity markings. Born to a long line of minority Jews living in the Muslin Quarter in East Jerusalem inside the walls, Ashery explores the neighbourly connections between her Jewish family and Muslim Palestinians as part of her ongoing research.
